Jacob Elordi Made Me Want to Read Shelley’s Frankenstein

Jacob Elordi Made Me Want to Read Shelley's Frankenstein

Yes, I said it. Okay?

All the previous iterations of The Monster/Creature are so not this. I realize it was on the page for Jacob, knowing Guillermo. And it’s straight out of the book I now know from actually reading it. What a much more beautiful work of art than ever before depicted. What lovely writing Mary Shelley crafted at such an incredibly young age.

Before Frankenstein 2025 was released I had heard an interview on the Smartless podcast with Oscar Isaac. Oscar said that they re-shot the goodbye scene per his request. The re-shoot wasn’t going to happen at first and then it was happening all of the sudden and he hadn’t done all his work “getting sad”. Oscar said he wasn’t sure it was any good until he watched it. He wanted to give his best to this role, to Jacob, and to Guillermo. After watching it he thought that it was more real and not forced. More natural and grounded. A great tip for us actors, be prepared, very, very prepared and then let it be. Let it happen, be connected. Well, Oscar (I am a huge fan btw) you and Jacob had me bawling my eyes out.

Thank you, Guillermo, for re-shooting that scene. I have no idea what it looked like before, but it sure pulls on the heartstrings now.

And Jacob’s performance is pure beauty. Completely art – words cannot describe. Well, writers could probably do his performance some justice.

I am so thankful for their good work!

A lot is different between the book and film. I really like what Guillermo did. I don’t know if it’s because I saw the film before reading the book or if the changes Guillermo chose were more entertaining visually… definitely more dramatic. Like he turned up the stakes especially when (no spoilers) one of the victims that is murdered by the monster in both the book and film. The setting is more dramatic of that same victim in the film. Some things don’t even exist in the book that are in the film and vice versa. I thoroughly enjoyed both and am so happy I had the pleasure of watching the film and that I was inspired to read the book.

And now I’m all set to watch The Bride coming out March 6.
